Description

Family and friends of the Peruvian Community in Ireland have been
waiting patiently for the publication of this recipe book. They are all too
aware of how much time and effort has gone into the production of ‘Peruvian
Home Cooking’. The recipe book is compiled of carefully chosen family recipes
which are close to the hearts of the Peruvian community who now call Ireland
their home. South American cuisine is fast increasing in popularity; in
particular the dishes from Peru, with ‘Ceviche’ appearing on many new menus and
the number of Peruvian restaurants increasing in London.

In the past decade the Peruvian community in Ireland has grown
significantly and intercultural events have been a successful way to celebrate
culture, dance, music and of course, food. The Irish community have been eager
to taste the various foods and keen to get recipes. This is where Erika Pena,
the project coordinator, came up with the idea to collate the recipes that have
been passed down through generations in Peru, translate them into English and
modify the ingredients for an Irish market. Her generous nature has chosen two
Peruvian charities to benefit from this venture.

‘Help Them HOPE’ supports young people with disabilities throughout Peru
through educational scholarships and was founded by a Carlow man, John Whelan,
while living in Lima. www.helpthemhope.org

‘Peru for Life’ supports the Kyuki-do Wasi housing project which
provides a home and education for abandoned teenage mothers and their babies in
Cusco. www.facebook.com/PeruForLife
